Acupuncture Intro
Acupuncture is a time tested therapy which has proven to be beneficial in many ailments. Acupuncture is a science, and based on observation & documentation of data collected from the observations tested. The Chinese have meticulously documented what they observed clinically during acupuncture and herbal medicine treaments for thousands of years. There are literally hundreds of Chinese medicine books which were translated into many languages especially english for treatment in western cultures, as well as countless articles and new research printed in JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine, Pubmed, & many other medical journals.
Acupuncture has been used for many classical conditions as well as many modern medical conditions. Acupunture therapy looks at the whole body and tries to balance or harmonize the body and its energy. When the body is in balance, it will be free of illness. When the body’s qi (pronounced chee) is blocked or not flowing properly, illness or pain can occur. Acupuncture or Chinese herbal therapy can unblock the qi that has become blocked or stagnant and allow it to flow properly again therefore healing the body from illness or reducing pain.
Acupuncture therapy uses the body’s own natural healing abilities to correct the problem and as a result the person experiences less pain and/or more energy with other improved body functions. Some people will experience clarity in their mind, better digestive functions, proper blood circulation, and less pain if there is any pain.
The acupuncture needles are solid needles that are a little thicker than a hair. The needles are pre-sterilized and pre-packaged and they are disposable, one time use. The needles do not inject anything into the body.
The acupuncturist takes a comprehensive medical history of the patient and customizes the treatments on an individual basis for each treatment based on what the patient presents on their condition each week. Each point has specific functions and the acupuncturist selects these points based on the person’s conditon. Each week the acupuncturist monitors if the patients has had positive changes or not. The more chronic the condition, the harder it is to treat the condition. The recovery sometimes depends on the patient’s compliance with the acupuncturist’s recommendations. Generally, the patient will see changes relatively quickly, but there is nothing that specifically determines the duration of the treatments.
